About Us

Golden City Dance Collective strives to be a welcoming and affordable movement-arts community in SOMA. We embrace and empower all humans to be creative in their bodies, and dance through these hard times. We work hard to keep prices sustainable with sliding scale and volunteer opportunities, to create an inclusive and beautiful safe third space, and to maintain a democratically owned-and-operated organization behind it.

We Are A Worker-Owned Co-Operative

GCDC is a worker self-directed co-operative, meaning that we don’t have an owner at the top making all of the major studio decisions and taking the profit for themself. Instead, we use things like elected committees, community town halls, voting, and other horizontal processes to operate more fairly and democratically than a traditional business. Our goal is transparency, equitability, and democratic ownership.

We have a number of teams that keep GCDC running! You’ll see our Instructors on the floor teaching private lessons and group classes, you’ll chat with our Hosts when you arrive at the front desk, and you’ll chat with our Admin and Marketing teams when you schedule lessons, receive our monthly newsletter, or check out our social media.
