About Us

Golden City Dance Collective strives to be a welcoming and affordable movement-arts community in SOMA that embraces and empowers all humans to be creative in their bodies, and dance through these hard times. We strive to keep prices sustainable for arts classes, parties, private rentals, and events, to create an inclusive and safe space, and to maintain a democratically owned-and-operated org behind it.

GCDC is a worker self-directed co-operative,  meaning that we don’t have an owner at the top making all of the major studio decisions and taking the profit for themself. Instead, we use things like elected committees and community town halls to organize democratically, with clear processes for how workers can create and vote on proposals for how the studio should be run. Our goal is transparency, equitability, and democratic ownership.
